Golden Milk {AIP}

A.K.A Turmeric tea or turmeric milk. Turmeric is known for its anti inflammatory effects and many other beneficial health effects. Coconut milk is full of healthy fats including Medium-chain fatty acids. Golden milk is ground turmeric combined with coconut milk, along with spices to make it delicious.

I’ve added collagen to this recipe which helps support hair, skin and nails; it also makes the drink nice and frothy.

The spices that I’ve added create a warming milk, which can be a stress relief or way to calm down in the evening or before bed time (omitting the green tea). I’ve added the green tea component because I most often find myself drinking this in the morning when I would regularly drink coffee.DSCF4051[1]

This recipe is AIP and does not include black pepper, if you are not following AIP I recommend that you add a little bit to make the turmeric more available to your body. Instead I have added pink Himalayan pink salt for the AIP version.

Golden Milk

Servings: 1-2

Ingredients

  • 2 cups full-fat coconut milk {Non-AIP: almond or cashew milk will also work}
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 pinch of Himalayan pink salt or sea salt {Non-AIP: pinch of black pepper}
  • 1 tbsp collagen
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup {Optional for sweetness, could also use honey or dates}
  • 2 green tea bags {Non-AIP: could use Chai tea bags}

Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a medium sauce pan except tea bags and bring to a light boil. Whisk all ingredients together and turn to a simmer. Allow to simmer for about 5 minutes to combine spices. Then add the tea bags and allow to steep about 3 minutes, whisking again if necessary. Serve and enjoy!

*This recipe can be doubled and stored in a glass container in the fridge up to 4 days.

Turmeric is brightly colored and I recommend serving in dark mugs or class, rather than white or plastic containers.
