Learning to Trust God to Provide

My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Needs and wants are things we all have and they are different from each other and vary from person to person.

  • A need is something we must have- food and water to be healthy, clothing, basic health care and hygiene products and a home.
  • A want is something we would like to have-whether it be something for more comfort, convenience or to increase health and safety.

Most people in the world are blessed to have all their needs met, but struggle with their wants consuming them day-to-day. Focusing on what you don’t have, leads to unhappiness and a sense of impatience or frustration. When you start focusing on your wants more than you should, remember that there are people in the world that don’t have their needs met. There are homeless, starving, sick people in the world. We should be grateful for what we do have, even if it’s not everything we want or need because if we believe in Christ, in heaven all of our needs will be met:

He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever. {Revelation 21:4}

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. {Philippians 1:6}

But we can also experience God’s provision here on earth in the meanwhile.

It’s amazing to me that videos of people in remote areas in different countries, with hardly anything to eat, in a tiny shelter can be peaceful. Often it’s because they carry with them, the peace of God and trust that he will supply all of their needs.

We can carry the peace of God into our lives when we feel we aren’t enough, don’t have enough or won’t get enough in the future.

God is reliable, concerned and trustworthy. We can trust him. He listens to our needs. He is compassionate. He is involved. He cares for us. He is not too busy and he is able.

1. Know that he will provide for your needs. He will provide for ALL of our needs, not some, but all. He won’t give you everything you want in this life, but in heaven we will have even more than we even dreamed of.

My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. {Philippians 4:19}

Your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him. {Matthew 6:8}

2. Give thanks for what you do have, daily. The quickest way to ease anxiety and gain peace is to tell God what you’re thankful for even if it’s just a hot shower and a stable home.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.{Philippians 4:6}

3. Every morning seek God and put him first in your life.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. {Luke 12:31}

4. When you’re lacking the things you need and your wants are piling up, remember that God has a plan for your life, that includes your needs and wants. Prayerfully ask him what you could learn from the situation you’re facing and guidance on where to go next.

 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” {Jeremiah 29:11}

5.Trust that he is able to provide for you.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. {Ephesians 3:20}
