Election Encouragement

Today is November 9th, 2016; I’ve woken up to a lot of negative, nasty social media posts about the election results and what other people voted, and wanted to put out  a word of encouragement that God placed on my heart.

Honestly, I don’t have a favorite color really. Whenever someone asks this question, I get stumped; They are all so beautiful, how do I pick just one?! Often I pick one out of the rainbow that I think is pretty at the time, only to see it in isolation and regret my choice.

I don’t have a favorite color because the truth is: it’s only beautiful when the colors are different but together not separated individually.

Red is pretty when its separated but its more beautiful when it is placed next to pink and orange.

How does this relate to the election you ask?

We as humans are all different, we have different perspectives, different backgrounds, different goals, different relationships with God and different political views. But we are ALL God’s children made by him, whether we accept and know him or not.

Even though each of us is different from each other, when we come together as a christian family of believers and a nation we are beautiful. In isolation, separated from one another we aren’t that useful and don’t shine. Together with other believers we make each other shine more and more.

“None of this going off and doing your own thing”{Colossians 3:15b, MSG}

Americans are vastly different from one another just like colored pencils; different shades, colors, sharpness and type.

We shouldn’t turn to one another and judge criticize or say idle words because someone doesn’t look, think, and act like us.

“You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor” {James 3:18, MSG}

We were created differently specifically for the purposes God has set before us.

“Now all of you together are Christ’s body, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it” {1 Corinthians 12:27, NLT}

We are all part of God’s family and have a specific role, because we have different characteristics, thoughts, opinions, and motivations.

“The body we’re talking about is Christ’s body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body” {Romans 12:5a, MSG}

20161109_104749If I would have colored an all red dog, he wouldn’t be really pretty would he? or if I colored him all blue he would be pretty boring. Instead I used ALL the different colors together to create something useful and beautiful.

The red colored pencil does not turn to the blue colored pencil and say I don’t need you, you are different from I and wrong. Neither does the blue pencil say I hate you because you’re red, please leave. Instead TOGETHER, these two DIFFERENT colors, fill in a beautiful picture.

“Can you imagine Eye telling Hand, “Get lost; I don’t need you”? or, Head telling Foot, “You’re fired; your job has been phased out”?” {1 Corinthians 12:21b, MSG}

We are called to be different and come together and be respectful and love one another; Not criticize, harass, or judge others because of their differences.

“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves” {Romans 12:10, NIV}

Regardless if the person you voted for is our new president or not, be respectful of your fellow believers and non-believers for they are all God’s children, including our new president. Pray for them, love them and honor them above yourself, then you will feel the peace of God protect your heart and mind.

 “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” {Phillipians 4:6-7, NLT}

Don’t worry about the future actions or non actions of our government, bring these worries to God and as you trust him to be in control you will find peace {and will look peaceful like my little dog of course}.

“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.” {Phillipians 4:8-9, NLT}

“If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.” {Phillipians 2:1-4, MSG}
