Random Acts of Kindness

Have you ever did something kind for someone else and then felt good too? Kindness is contagious! It’s a win-win situation. You get to feel good helping someone and they feel good that you blessed them.

According to a Huffington post research reveals that doing good deeds, or kind acts, can make socially-anxious people feel better. For four weeks, the University of British Columbia researchers assigned people with high levels of anxiety to do kind acts for other people at least six times a week. The acts of kindness included things like holding the door open for someone, doing chores for other people, donating to charity, and buying lunch for a friend. The researchers found that doing nice things for people led to a significant increase in people’s positive moods. It also led to an increase in relationship satisfaction and a decrease in social avoidance in socially anxious individuals.

I know when I go out of my way to be kind someone, I normally feel less self-conscious, insecure and anxious. More on becoming less anxious here.

I’ve also been on the receiving end of someone’s kindness, and have greatly appreciated what someone did for me. Whether they just smiled, said hello, thanked me for my hard work, or asked how I was doing.

Either way, there’s positive that comes out of acts of kindness.
